Thank you, Steve, for your considerate note about Tim. Sad news, indeed. 

I first got acquainted with Tim on the junior high ski bus, and through high school and adulthood being around him in person, or in more recent years enjoying his periodic reminiscences in the message forum (he was an excellent writer, cheerful and thoughtful), you could count on the same easygoing personality, good-natured disposition, and gentlemanly demeanor.

It is sad to hear about Tim's passing. I had not read his profile page, so I was unaware of his health problems. I enjoyed reading his comments, and the sharing of his memories of past days on this forum. RIP, Tim.

i also am grieved about the death of Seattle. Once being my home city (I was born in Olympia), the condition of the city has degenerated so much that it's shocking to me. My observations of the filth, crime, and corruption has convinced me that I would not move back near there to live again. My youngest daughter still lives up there, but we can avoid the worst areas to get to their house in Sandpoint. Who would have guessed what would transpire in the Emerald City mere decades after 1962? Such a waste...

One cultural/economy change that started the destruction of the retail business in Seatlle was the loss of large retail stores that sold quality brand name products and customer services like the Bon Marche and Fredrick & Nelson. The City Mayor, Council, and Police Chief in the past would have protected the shopping environment and those type of businesses much like the large European cities of the time.They promoted a safe shopping atmosphere to draw visitors and rural folk alike to PNW culture, Farmers Market type foods, specialty bakeries, hand made sausage, seafood, local brews, and fine imports for commerce and safe walk-around entertainment.Visitors could shop at quality retail stores while enjoying the view and history of Seattle as a gateway to the orient and North American recreation wildernesses in Canada and Alaska.

I think that it's ironic that even Bozo's Amazon corporate operations people could not live with the horrible changes in the downtown working environment. If there is no sales and visible law & order, then there are no taxes to pay for a desireable city with public safety for decent, law-abiding people... I wonder how those people who bought expensive condos in the dowtown area feel about their urban jungle home location decision now? I worked in downtown Seattle in 2005 for Andrews Space and I could see and smell the death of the culture then. Andrews Space wisely moved to Tukwila.

The lightning storm the other day reminded me of living in northern Texas during the mid-1980's. Pretty cool! That is a really good lightning storm photograph, Bill.

It always amazes me how old the KJR song selections looked in the spring of 1964 compared to the rock and roll band music that we listened and danced to at the local dance halls of the time. PNW music was not considered "money-making" music entertainment by the big selling labels in 1964. The Beattles certainly released their music under many different labels in 1964. I enjoyed the 1980's music more.

Cheryl--I vaguely remember that, Rob Hunt ('65) may have had a hand in that. He was one of the singers who did the original song when they did West Side Story.
I wrote a parody of Peter, Paul and Mary's Very Last Day for, I think, the senior assembly just prior to graduation. It mentioned "talk about the wisdom of Lowell", because I needed it for the rhyme! I think Rob and maybe Randy Coplen sang it at the assembly.

I worked at the Space Needle in the restaurant with George Brower for a while before he went off to boot camp for the Air Force in 1965 or '66. Bruce Bliven's oldest son, Brad, works on the Needle's elevator system these days. [It's a very different world today after we lost JFK's and RR's patriotic and insightful leadership. The Clowns in America and a group of foreign banking tyrants terminated JFK, but failed to kill Ronny.]

Remembering an Uncle serving on the Arizona.  The CO of my submarine allowed me to stand topside and "dip our colors" as we passed the Arizona on a trip out of Pearl Harbor  "back in the day".  i saw a TV program last week about using an ROV to explore the ship and they explored the wardroom where he was likely located when the attack occurred....

I miss Kip Martin. Our oldest son was a "bubblehead" and attack sub "nuke" operator for over 20 years. I flew ASW aircrew out of NAS' Sandpoint & Whidbey... We are a US Navy family.
