Tim -- I think that Donovan concert might have been a couple of years earlier. I got dragged to it kicking and screaming (by Chris Loucks, '65). I loved it! He's absolutely magic in person. I saw him a couple more times back then.

He was in Seattle in about 2008 or 9 and my wife and I went. He still had the magic, much to my surprise. He only performed one new song, but even the old ones didn't sound tired. Amazing musician.

You asked for some input about the new ads on the site. My simple response is "Annoying!"

Though I don't contribute much to discussions, I do read most everything that gets posted and enjoy staying in touch with and hearing about classmates. I suspect those of us who visit the site regularly would have no problem coming up with the $192/yr to clear the ads.I'll be interested in reading the comments of others.

Gary, I would agree with Joe's statement above.  I would certainly help contribute to keep ads away. They are as pesty as bugs at a picnic. Thanks for keeping us all in touch!

Gary, I would vote NO on the ads to pay for the web service for this site. Most of the time I'm here via a laptop and the ads have been annoying but manageable.  I've recently acquired an iPad and in the smaller format, the ads tend to crowd-out the content. I actually clicked on an ad thinking it was content. 

Typing this, as soon as I hit the 'Post Message' button, a giant ad filled my screen and then a second ad. . The powers that be in the internet world are always trying to figure new ways to put ad content in front of our eyes.

I would rather pay a small fee annually than to have this site cluttered with ads.  This has always been a nice place to go without having to be bombarded with clutter.

I suspect that Gary, and perhaps Bill, have been paying this annual bill for a very long time. We might owe them more than just the current annual fee.

They, and we, might have wait one year to get rid of adds.

Gary, I'm in agreement with others and would be willing to contribute to paying for the site to not have ads.  Like most others, I don't contribute much to the dialog but do read all of it and like keeping up with others.  It's even harder keeping touch since we moved to Monroe 2 years age.

The Seeds at the Eagles Auditorium... 1967... I had remembered it as being in January though... maybe it was both... light show, all day and I believe Tom Robbins and Shazzam was there also...

on subject of first rock concert, probably mine was Bob Dylan at the Paramount in 1966... only Bob Dylan never performed there of course... my brother Dave Highline '66... took me to see Bob there one afternoon after I got back from Utah in distress... He was on the staff of the Daily at UW and now I think the show he took me to was a rehearsal, cause it was definitely Bob and not many in the audience... and wasn't the Paramount not even open at that time? so maybe as a staffer at the Daily, Dave got us in to the rehearsal? (I wish he was around so I could ask him)

It was great, if kind of strange, I was dressed in a suitdress with nylons and the rest of the audience (and Bob and his group) were all wearing jeans of course. I like to say that Bob Dylan saved my life... the only song I remember from that afternoon was The Times they are A Changing... truth

Our family all stared in amazement at the Beatles.  I remember my Mom and Dad dancing in front of the TV.  They just loved the Beatles.  Full disclosure.......my parents were British!

I occasionally wake up with a song running through my head. Did this morning.  A rock & rollish version of Gershwin's 1935 Summertime. I remember litening to it driving home from work at Boeing Renton about 1965-66 in my 53 Oldsmobile.  I had no idea who recorded it. 

I went on YouTube and typed in Summertime - Gershwin. What came up were hundreds of covers of the popular standard. I tightened my search with Rockish version of Gershwin Summertime-1965.  I was getting closer. Found a cover by the Zombies. That wasn't it. Then a cover by Ray Brown and The Whispers. NOPE! That wasn't it either.

Then I found a live version of Billy Stewart singing it.  That sounded closer, but no cigar.  I tighten my search again and found a five minute studio version of Stewart's cover. Close, but the beginning was different. Then I found a shortened for AM radio studio version and yeah, that's it. 1966.  Brought back some, me 20 year old memories. Great and unique cover of Summertime.

A year a two back I found a Billy Stewart ballad he wrote and released in January 1965.  Sitting In The Park (waiting for you). I don't think I ever hear that song in 65?

It's amazing what you can find music related on YouTube.

Spring is just around the corner, but just got a weather forcast for snow again next week. Crap!

I had not seen Highline High School in probably 40 years. Today, my wife took pictures of the front of it. It is not that bad. At first glance, it seems to be the same as the original high school.
