Tom,

I looked at the User Forums area and agree that it could be utilized more often for posting topics of interest to open discussion posters and followers. The problem with formats of that type are placing every discussion topic input into a subject category slot or a dedicated, "file of subject matter messages", so to speak.

I think the existing categorization style in User Forums would stifle some of the spontaneity of open discussion topics. The format would also require followers to work through a maze of titles and discussion subset files under each topic to read posted discussions of interest. This is probably the reason that the Users Forums function is less frequently used by our classmates than the Message Forum.

User Forums could become a repository for archiving popular subject entries from an Open Discussions Forum or the Message Forum. This itemized format works best with a short alphabetic topic list set of hotlinks provided on a home page index (like the one to the left of this page.) If you don't provide a search engine on the website, then subjects can get too parsed out and the user access index too complex and lengthy. How would we transition the existing entries over to that format -- say the Cosmology discussions, and how would the topic areas be maintained by the participants?

Would there be an automated "house cleaning" of topic files that are no longer frequently accessed to keep website data storage requirements at a reasonable level? There might be an access counter on the forum topic portals to assess the popularity of a topic area by classmates (and decide if subject matter posts have lost their usefullness to the users and therefore should be deleted.) A posted comment or discussion set date helps to identify potentially dead topics. All of these features are used on other non-profit organization websites that I fequently visit as a member or visitor.

If this site becomes a platform for classmate solicitations and social topic avoidance complainers, then I will no longer participate in the adult exchange of ideas and discussions here in the forum. As I said, I agree that messages should be held at a reasonable length, and I was a major offender of the long length posts.

Merry Christmas to all of our classmates. Spread the love. It is a world-wide celebration of peace and joy for all people of good will. Cheers.

Paid up at last! Thank you Gary and Bill for all that you have done to keep us connected, both physically at reunion meet and greets and on the Internet of Things (IoT) through this website.

Some classmates perceive this sharing site media to be more secure than FaceBook. Several classmates who don't post here, but like to read the discussions, have told me in private messages that they feel safer participating here than in other popular social media venues. This is an open forum area of the website that is accessable by search engines like Google, Duck Duck Go, and Yahoo, so don't address a subject matter here that you don't want people outside our group to read. Outsiders cannot post to this Message Forum, but they can read things that you submit to this forum without joining it.

I have found that the disadvantage of using the private messaging function on the site, instead of this Message Forum, is that you can't share photos or hyperlinks through private messages; it's a simple one-on-one communication tool instead of an open discussion venue with graphics sharing capability.

Thanks Bruce and others for further incentivising us to complete the payback of the reunion shortfall.

Happy New Year to you all. The US economy seems to be doing very well and we are still here to share the joys of living and good will with each other. Cheers to a prosperous and enjoyable senior life in 2020.

Al

I remember in school reading the book '1984' and thinking that was so far in the future.... the same thought years later about the year 2000.....and now 2020.   Life has a way of flying by while we are looking the other direction!

Happy New year to all!

Bruce, I like the roaring 20’s comment.

Classmates, I have fun challenge for us ALL . With a few folks checking in for the new year above, let’s have everyone who is on this group site do so too. A short message .....still here in 2020.....is sufficient. So you all are officially tagged! GO

Gee, 2020, that's a big number. We tend to not look too far down the road when we are young.  I recall sitting in the selective service office at 18, filling out forms and wondering for the first time what life for me will be like at 50?  Way past that now! Closer to the image attached. Looking through my annuals and reading the classmate messages. There are a lot of people from the class of 65 that I'd like to see again.

Hope the New Year and New Decade is good to you all.

Cheers and Happy New Year,

Tim

Hi Ken,

Your photo of the new HHS building construction progress did not get posted with your last message. Can you try to get it posted here again for all of us to see? I seldom get up to Burien any more. Thanks.

Al

Ken, it looks like the website doesn't recognize your picture format. You might need to convert the picture to jpeg and/or reduce it to 72 dpi.

Highline High's new building takes shape.  The Highline Performing Arts Center is on the right and Highline Memorial Stadium is on the left.  Picture was taken about Jan 2nd.  If this actually posts, I will try to periodically post progress photos for interested out-of-towners.

Happy New Year,

Ken Becker

Happy New Year from Denver from one displaced Seahawk fan! Also, for those who remember our Sunnydale Kindergarten class play King Cole’s Court, I found the Program. Also found the program for our 1952 Graduation Ceremony. It gets better, I also found Sunnydale grades 1-5 class photos in perfect shape (don’t have 6th grade). If I can figure out how to post that many pictures, I’ll do it on my profile page-don’t want to take up that much space on this forum. God Bless you all in 2020.

Moving carefully forward after the death of my wife of 52 years in Sept 2019.  The Army Navy game in December, with a Navy win, was a welcome diversion.  Happy New Year to all.
